Love is not a typical romantic drama. Directed by Argentine-Italian provocateur Gaspar Noé ( Irréversible , Enter the Void ), the film is a raw, chronological and flashback-driven story of Murphy (Karl Glusman), an American film student living in Paris. The narrative opens with him receiving a distressing phone call from his ex-girlfriend, Electra (Aomi Muyock). Overcome with guilt and longing, he reflects on their intensely passionate, volatile, and sexually explicit relationship two years prior, while also reckoning with his more recent, mundane partnership with his current girlfriend, Omi (Klara Kristin).
