The film begins with Jack, a teenager who lives in modern-day San Francisco. One day, while exploring the attic of his family's home, Jack stumbles upon a strange-looking jade pendant that once belonged to the Monkey King, Sun Wukong (played by Jet Li). As soon as Jack picks up the pendant, he is transported back in time to ancient China, specifically to the Qin dynasty.
